This is a comment emailed to us by customers, that had their wedding reception at our restaurant on 18th January 2010 :-

Dear Tom & All the staff at the Greenpea

We just wanted to write and say a huge thank you for everything that you did to make Victoria and Saviours wedding a day to remember.

We are sure that an enormous amount of effort went into the planning and preparation of not just the meal, which was truly outstanding, but the room looked so wonderful as well.  The placecards were a lovely finishing touch and looked beautiful, and the flowers were just right.

They could not have picked a better place to hold their reception.  You were all amazing and worked so very hard to provide everything that people wanted and did it so professionally and in a way that appeared effortless.

I could not fault anything that you did and have already told so many people about you and just hope that they take the time to come and see what an amazing gem of a place is hiding there just waiting to be experienced.  We are just sorry that we live so far away as we would certainly be coming to see you on a regular basis.

Keep on doing what you do and don’t change!  It is perfect just the way it is!

Kindest regards for giving all of us a day that we will never forget.

Fiona, Neil, Holly, Kathryn and Lauren

This is a comparison made by a customer in Greenwich between us and local pubs around us.

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

Well even if the quality of the beer and service has improved the quality of the custom base is clearly deteriorating . . .

The Pelton Arms, Greenwich

Since the new ownership there's a definate improvement. I think after years of neglect the place just needed a good shake-up. Friendly and welcoming with lot's going on such as band and themed evenings. The food is good, the music is pleasant and just a few minutes walk from the Thames Path. Would recommend.

Hardys Freehouse, Greenwich

Excellent pub. Good choice of beer and larger which is not to pricey for Greenwich. There are 3 Large screens playing sport mainly Horse Racing during the day. The food , supplied from the Green Pea Restuarant next door , is superb. Tom is very entertaining and gives and good as he gets! Rounding of the excellent 'pub feel' atmosphere. The only minus is the small garden/ yard which doesn't trap the sun and can be a bit of a turn off when chosing a pub to drink in the summer. worth a visit for the food alone!

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

This used to be an excellent pub particulary during the long summer months. The beer choice is good but it's expensive and almost always stale and flat. I've returned many a pint to the often unphased staff who just don't seem to understand what a pint should smell, look and taste like. The atmosphere used to be cozy but the staff seem more concerend with entertaining themselves rather than keeping the place tidy and serving the customers. The food is overpriced junk. Until something drastically changes I simply refuse to return and recommend any potential customers stay well away. Minus the views over the River Thames ; The Hardies, The Kings Head and The Pelton Arms all have much more to offer.

The ViewLondon Review

Review byNicole Farrell18/09/2008
The Green Pea is a small Irish restaurant with a hearty range of roast meats, homemade pies and organic fare, annexed to Hardy’s Freehouse, a lively Greenwich pub offering a broad selection of ales, live music and quiz nights.

The Venue
A short walk from Greenwich town centre and close by the Maze Hill overground rail station, The Green Pea serves old style home cooking with homely wood panelled decor to match. The main dining area holds six or seven tables, and the artwork on the walls and dim lighting create a cosy feel.

The Green Pea’s menu is also served in Hardy’s bar next door, where you can choose to sit on a high wooden stool at the bar or at chintzy benched tables along the length of the lounge. It can become quite crowded on sporting weekends and musical evenings, and booking in advance is advised on Sundays.

The Atmosphere
The atmosphere is warm, busy and familiar, though quieter in the restaurant than in the bar. The larger proportion of the crowd is made up of middle-aged locals, but both bar and restaurant are frequented by university students and families too. The staff are friendly and attentive. If you choose to eat at the bar, don’t be surprised if you are taken up in general banter or involved in a debate over a rugby foul.

The Food
Green Pea serves a good range of organic meat and chicken pies and vegetarian crepes, and a full Irish breakfast is also available most weekends too. The day’s specials, from fish to goat’s cheese tart, garrulously detailed and everything is made in situ with fresh, quality ingredients. The price ranges from around £7 a course, to some £11 for a full lunch.

The three course Sunday lunch starts off with rich and chunky vegetable soup, and the beef and lamb roast is accompanied by crispy roast potatoes and fresh and colourful market veg. The meat is slow roasted, a flavourful brown, and arrives with a battery of sauces and a gravy jug. Dessert is made up of moreish home baked cakes and tarts.

The Drink
The clientele are not the umbrella-in-cocktail drinking kind, but a large range of lagers, stouts, ales, wines and spirits is available from the bar. The advantage of the annexed pub is that you are not confined to
wine: most any drink can be had to accompany your meal, from gin and tonic to Guinness to fresh bottled juice. Espressos, macchiatos and liqueurs are available as well.

The Last Word
The Green Pea serves high quality traditional pub grub with an organic sensibility. A bustling and friendly restaurant and bar, it’s the perfect place to brunch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

What a lovely restaurant and great food.
Went to the Green Pea, for the first time, to celebrate my sister's 40th birthday, as there were quite a few of us we were able to have 'the run' of the whole restaurant, this added to the charm of the place straight away. There was a great sofa seated area where we waited before being seated for our meal. We were greeted, cooked for and served by the chef / owner Tommy, who was very friendly and made us feel welcome. He sat with us, described his entire wonderful menu and gave us time to decide what we wanted to order, there was so much mouth-watering choice we were spoilt. The food is described as traditional, I haven't eaten food like this in a very long time, it was exceptional cooking, mouth-watering, scrummy and very filling, real food!!!! Everything was home made, freshly cooked and appeared to be organic. Starters were fantastic which still left you with space for your main meal. I had the fish pie, real tasty chunks of fish with mushrooms and leek, fresh vegetables and roast potatoes. There were even tastier Shanks of Lamb, Cottage Pie (made with Guinness), Chicken Breast, Steak and Ale Pie going around, with all of us saying 'go on try this it's lovely'. Don't get me started on the puddings....oh my god!......fudge cake, apple pie, bakewell and almond tart and a mmmmmmmm yummy apple crumble. When we had all finished we relaxed with drinks and were not rushed out in anyway, infact my family all left before my husband and I and we were able to finish our drinks peacefully, we chatted with Tommy for a while and then headed off home, totally stuffed and contented. We all had a lovely evening and would totally recommend this place.
To let you know that you will find Green Pea attached to Hardy's pub. I walked straight passed it! And you don’t wanna do that, believe me.

This is the greatest friendliest little homely pub i have been to in quite a while, Tom, who is the resident chef ( i say chef because this guy cooks with all fresh meats and vegetables)and a laugh a minute, makes all welcome, the atmosphere is just phenominal and the bar staff add to the overall friendliness of the evening, even the locals are there with a great helping hand, it is hard to believe in these days that there are still real friendly folks that gather together on a regular basis and serve the best darned food i have eaten out in the longest time. Hooray for the Irishman who could i think make any food absolutely great. You have not eaten until you go for his lamb shank, it just falls of the bone and has the greatest taste, i would venture to say even someone who does not like lamb, would enjoy it prapared by this guy. If i lived within a hundred miles of this place i would be there at least on a weekly basis.

All i can say is keep it up Tom.

Excellent food prepared by the resident chef, a wonderful Irishman called Tom who comes out and presents you with a speaking menu of all his home-made, toally organic and truly wonderful food. Good atmosphere, too, and a fun quiz on Thursday nights.
